Bombay sorter

This space-saving and versatile sortation system is specifically designed for fast and efficient sorting of small to medium, light-weight, items ranging from jewellery to garments and miscellaneous packaged goods. Items can be sorted to cartons, totes, sacks or any other carrying medium. The sorter can be manufactured with double (split) or single trays.

Inducted items can be manually scanned or automatically inducted into either one or two carrier segments or across both so that they can be transported for release at an assigned dropstation which normally represents a store or delivery point. The split trays/carriers (4 segments per set of trays) convey items in a horizontal orientation and release them, bomb bay style, into cartons, totes or sacks placed below them.

This is an energy efficient sorter, consisting of a train of hinged trays/carriers that can be released on either side for product discharge. The carriages are interconnected in a continuous loop which is driven by separate drive and sprocket assemblies which have been designed to drive the sorter without mechanical interference between the hinged trays/carriers. Driven by a single variable speed motor it is exceptionally quiet in operation. Typical speed is 7200 trays/hour.

By design the split tray mechanism is simple and provides long-lasting performance and minimised operating costs with few moving parts which are easy to maintain. The sorter frame is manufactured from modular box section materials which ensures construction is quick and simple, besides being aesthetically appealing with a high-quality finish. The sorter requires minimal footprint and can be set-up and installed where space is at a premium.
